Obituary of Sr. James Denis Herold, OSF

Sister James Denis Herold (Theresa), OSF July 24, 2015 Sister James Denis Herold went home to God on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, NY. Sister was born to Otto and Anna Margaret Haas Herold in Syracuse New York and had just turned 81 years old. She was a Sister of St. Francis for 62 years. Sister received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from SUNY College in Oswego, NY. Sister was an educator in schools in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Ohio. She was the Director of the Volunteer Program at St. Joseph Hospital for 8 years and also worked in the micro-film department there; did clerical work at Loretto Rest in Syracuse and in a Medical Clinic in Florida. For 11 years, she was a secretary for Catholic Charities in Syracuse. Sister will always be remembered for her dedication, devotion and determination to do for her community and others despite dealing with severe arthritis. She was tireless in her efforts to teach children from other countries to learn and speak English before and after school hours. Sister was always kind and charitable to the poor. Saving, trading, and passing on coupons for groceries and medicines was one of her passions through which she helped many people save much. Her special chuckle, especially in her later years, added much joy to any day. She is pre-deceased by her parents, a brother John Herold, and a sister Marion Herold Segerstrom. Sister is survived by three brothers, Hubert Herold, Theodore (Loretta) Herold, Thomas Herold; two sisters, Caroline (Curtiss) Foote, Delores H. Romero; several nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of St. Francis. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 7pm Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Franciscan Villa Chapel, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY 13212. Calling hours will be from 3:30 to 6:30 pm Tuesday at the chapel prior to the Mass. A farewell service will be held at 8:30am on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Franciscan Villa Chapel. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities Mission Advancement Office, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY 13212.
