Obituary of Ellen M. Scheirer

Ellen (Burns) Scheirer, 85, of Solvay, NY passed away on October 3rd at The Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. She was born in Solvay, and employed at Solvay High School and Allied Industrial Laundry before retiring in 1994. Ellen was a member of the Lady Douglas Lodge #126 Daughters of Scotia. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Frances Burns; her stepfather, Joseph Richards; her brothers Thomas and John "Jack" Burns; her sister, Christina (Burns) Zingaro; her sons Donald "Ducks" Scheirer and Thomas Scheirer; and her daughter, Christie (Scheirer) Kurowski. Survivors: her daughter, Nancie Scheirer (Zimmerman) of Boston, MA, and her grandchildren: Lisa Scheirer, Tom (Erin) Scheirer, Jeff (Priscilla) Scheirer, Jamie Scheirer, Erin Scheirer, Cassandra (Peter) Hitchcock, Anthony Kurowski, Jennifer Kurowski, Catherine Kurowski, Christine (Kurowski) Jacobson, Andrew Kurowski, Rachel Kurowski, Kimberly (Kurowski) Kowacz, Joseph Kurowski, David Kurowski, Richard Kurowski, Thomas Kurowski, Corey Kurowski; 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Ellen's family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing for their care and compassion. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 8th at The Van Duyn Chapel, 1st floor, North Lobby, 5075 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Van Duyn Home & Hospital Activities Fund, 5075 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, New York 13215.
