Lt. Col. Elizabeth T. Burns USA April 23, 2010 Lt. Col. Elizabeth T. Burns USA (Ret.), 90, of Syracuse passed away Friday. She was born in Syracuse to Francis P. and Catherine Dunn Burns. Betty was a US Army nurse serving in England, France and Germany during WWII. Betty also served in the Korean War. She spent 3 years in Tokyo and while there attended the Jesuit University. Upon returning to the US, she finished her degree at Boston College. Betty worked in the Syracuse Catholic School System as a nurse for many years. She was predeceased by her brothers, Bill, Herb, Bob and Frank and sisters, Marion, Mary Anne, her twin, Sr. Mary Catherine Burns OSF, Shirley Murphy, and Nancy Cayer. Survivors: her sisters, Sr. Francis Patrick CSJ, and Katherine Kane; several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Veterans Hospital for their loving care and compassion. Thank you especially to Fr. David James for his being her companion on her journey home. Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tindall Funeral Home and 12:10 p.m. at St. Daniel's Church, 3004 Court St. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt in the family plot. Calling hours 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 1921 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Development Office, Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Rd. Latham, NY 12110
