Condolences to Marty's family from a former President of the Dewitt Fish and Game Club, where Marty was always so helpful solving our insurance needs. I will make a donation in his memory.
That's a beautiful video of a life really well-lived, and a great American patriot!
With sympathy for your loss,

I remember Marty and Janet and family from the early days of my marriage to Margie Casey. They are good people and we always had fun at family gatherings at their home.
The last time I saw Marty he asked me if I could give him more information on my Uncle Peter Glowacki who was also, at the battle of Iwo Jima. Sadly he did not survive. He was the uncle I never got to meet. I am also, sorry that I never got back to Marty with that information.
May I extend my deepest condolences to Janet and family at this sad time.
He was truly one of the Greatest Generation.

Marty was a fixture at Labrador Ski Area from my very first memories. My father, Ken Greenhalgh, was an original minority investor in Labrador and Marty was always there as a ski patrolman, season after season. His cheerful, energetic manner was my everlasting impression of him and a tribute to his personality. My husband, who is a former Marine, was very impressed with and respectful of Marty's military service history and always remarked when he saw Marty in his travels downtown in Syracuse or spied his signature license plate on the streets. Like my father, who was also a decorated WWII veteran, Marty represents a generation of doers, self-sacrifice and patriotism who exemplified what it means to be an American.

To: Janet and Family,
I am deeply saddened to read of Marty's passing. My friendship with him goes back to 1965 when we were both associated with Travelers Insurance Company. That's when I first learned of his WW2 Marine Corps service and his engagement in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After that I came to see what a great athlete and sportsman he was, and that we were fellow alumni of LeMoyne College. He generously gave me tips on how to improve my raquetball game. But my fondest memory is when I hosted him (and you) and his two Iwo Jima comrads (with their wives) in my suite at the Syracuse Chiefs Ballpark for their annual get-together after the War. It was an honor. I will also always cherish our last visit at your home.
With deepest sympathy,
Sam Vavonese

My condolences to Marty's family. May he rest in peace. I remember him as a kid when he handled my father's (Les Lincoln) insurance. He made an impression on me when I was young.

These are Dad’s Library of Congress videos. They are long. But I thought we should post them because he worked so hard on his memoirs. It was very important to him to get this chapter of his life right. Enjoy.
