William J. Halpin of Syracuse, went home to be with Lord and his beloved wife, Jane. William served in World War II from 1942 to 1945 as a Radio Operator for the US Army Air Corp. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He served on the Syracuse Police Department for thirty-five years and was promoted to Sergeant on Christmas day of 1960. He retired in the Fall of 1983. Bill was one of the first parishioners in St. Ann's Church and was a faithful servant of his church as a member of the Holy Name Society, Legion of Mary, and volunteered for weekly Bingo activities. He was strongly dedicated to the church and his Roman Catholic Faith. Bill was very active in the Camillus Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and sang with the Tom Dooley Choraliers. He enjoyed staying in good physical condition as an avid walker. He was also involved in bowling, golfing and handball. Bill was a quiet man, integrity-filled along with strong moral convictions. Those who knew him well appreciated his witty sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his brother, John Halpin, and sisters, Kathleen Halpin Buckley of Syracuse and the former Alfreda Halpin O'Brien. He leaves behind his six children, Thomas (Carol) Halpin of Mentor, OH, Michael (Linda) of Roswell, GA, Robert (Patricia) of Syracuse, NY, Mary Halpin-Trier (Michael) of Phoenix, AZ, Edward (Dawn, deceased) of Walden, NY and John David of Raleigh, NC; fourteen grandchildren, Stephen (Rachel) and Laura Halpin, Michael and Sarah Halpin, Shannon (Brent) Atkinson, Colleen, Robert Jr., Patrick Halpin, Megan and Casey Trier, Sean, Mariah, Brendan, Rory Halpin and one great grandchild, Colin Sheil. We will truly miss you dad, but we know you are now in perfect peace with our Lord, Jesus, and reunited with your beloved wife and our mother, Jane. Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tindall Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann's Church, 4471 Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse. Burial with military honors will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St.
