Raymond Wesley Vollmer passed away on February 19, 2011, he was 82. Born in Syracuse, on January 19, 1929, he graduated from Potsdam High School. He attended Clarkson University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he married Elizabeth Bouck from Potsdam. He joined the Army and served from 1951 to 1953 stateside and was honorably discharged. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk, as his father had been before him. Joining the company in 1950, he worked both in Buffalo and Syracuse before retiring in 1987. His wife Beth, predeceased him in 1990. He enjoyed playing tennis, and bicycling. When he wasn't involved in his recreational activities he was traveling with his two daughters and their families. Mr. Vollmer was an active member of the West Genesee Methodist Church where he had seen to the maintenance needs and it's daily operations for the past 38 years. Perhaps his most recognizable feat was being a gallon blood donor to the local Red Cross. His volunteer work with local organizations and donations will be a tribute to those he helped. Mr. Vollmer is survived by his two daughters, Linda V. (John) Thompson, of Danville, Virginia, and Karen (Dale) Kelley of Angola, New York; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services: 4:00 p.m. Saturday at West Genesee United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1700 W. Genesee St. Syracuse, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made In Raymond's name to a favorite charity.
