Margaret Mathews Mahern January 12, 2011 Margaret Mathews Mahern (Nonnie), 93, of Syracuse passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Solvay in 1917, she was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, graduating from Convent High School and Syracuse Secretarial School. She formerly worked as a school secretary for the Syracuse City School District, retiring in 1981. Margaret has been a long time communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church. In her retirement years, Margaret was an avid golfer and tennis player along with her volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and Venice Hospital in Florida. For many years, she enjoyed her long walks and bike rides along Onondaga Lake Park. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis B. Mahern in 1978. Surviving are her son, Thomas (Eileen) Mahern of Venice, Florida; two daughters, Mary Mahern Phelan and Kathleen Mahern Cunningham of Syracuse, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margaret will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Services: Saturday, 8:30 a.m. at Tindall Funeral Home and 9:00 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Church. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Most Holy Rosary School, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, 13207 or St. Lucy's Food Pantry, 432 Gifford St., Syracuse, 13204.
