Obituary of John W. McGrath

John William "Bill" McGrath, 83, of Syracuse passed away in the presence of his loving family Monday at the VA Medical Center. Born in Syracuse, he was a US Navy veteran of WWII. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Catherine McGrath, brother, Edward McGrath, and sister, Mary Jane DeLaney. Survivors: daughter, Christine (Larry) Freeman; brother, Rev. Thomas J. McGrath; grandchildren, Josh (Amy) Freeman, Anthony (Shannon) Freeman; 3 great grandchildren; he was much loved and will be greatly missed by his 9 nieces and nephews, Bill DeLaney, Joe DeLaney, Pat DeLaney Benedict, Rev. Mike DeLaney, Kate DeLaney Magee, Tom McGrath, Anne McGrath Laba, Karen McGrath Copeman, and Daniel McGrath and their families. Services: 9:30 a.m. Friday at Tindall Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid-St. Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by his brother, Rev. Thomas J. McGrath. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Brigid-St. Joseph Church, 318 Herkimer St., Syracuse, NY 13204
