Obituary of Carl David Loughnot
Carl David Loughnot, 72, most recently of Fulton, NY and a native of the Syracuse area, passed away after a brief illness on November 18, 2017.
Carl was born and raised on a farm in Cicero and often spoke fondly about his grandmother and the many memories he treasured of his childhood there.
In the late 1960's a job opportunity with Varian of Palo Alto brought Carl and his young family to the San Francisco Bay Area. For almost 30 years, he pursued a career as a machinist for a number of California companies. In the late 1990's, Carl returned to the Syracuse area where he continued to work as a machinist until he retired in 2015.
Carl was well-known by his friends and family for his quick wit and sense of humor – he loved to make people laugh. He was also a jack of all trades, managing a band and farming cash crops for a spell in his free time. In addition, he enjoyed reading, politics, Hawaiian shirts, and flamingos! For all of his struggles, there was a light within him that will be missed by all.
He is survived by his children, Sheila Squadrito of Syracuse and David and Jeremy Loughnot of California; his grandchildren Adam, Kevin, Tyler, Nicholas, Emily, and Holly Squadrito of Syracuse; his great-grandchildren Aliza, Leah, Ava, and Isabella Squadrito of Syracuse; and his close friends Christine and Mark Hunt of Hannibal, who showed him an abundance of kindness the final years of his life.
Services: Carl's memory will be celebrated over drinks and shared stories from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the IOOB in Hannibal at 1218 County Route 3.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Literacy CNY at literacycny.org or 100 New Street Syracuse, NY 13202.
