Obituary of John E. King Sr.

John E. King, Sr., 87, of Syracuse went to Our Lord on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Otisco, NY to the late Leon S. and Geraldine King on December 2, 1929. John graduated from Onondaga Central School and honorably served in the US Navy during the Korean War. In 1953, John established King Landscaping, Inc. and began a successful career in commercial landscape contracting. He was a charter member of the American Landscape Contractors Association. John was active in the Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Tuscarora Golf Club where he served on the Board of Directors as Chairman of the Greens Committee and was named as their Man of the Year in 1977. He was also an enthusiastic downhill skier well into his eighties. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Theresa J. King, his sister, Helen Canale, his brother, Robert H. King and his grandson, Brian Wuerdeman. He is survived by his loving children; Marcia (Paul) Cappuccilli, Michael J. King, John E. (Ana) King, Jr., Geraldine (Kenneth) Costello and Mary E. (Stephen) Wuerdeman; eleven grandchildren; Matthew Cappuccilli, Michael Cappuccilli, John G. King, Orlando King, Marta (Brian) Bartelt, Christopher (Kacie) Costello, Philip Costello, Sarah (Brach) Barham, Olivia Costello, Stephanie (John) Crowder and Kevin Wuerdeman; eight great-grandchildren; Eve, Grant, Flynn, Sydney, Kimley, Jonah, Carter and Madelyn; his sister-in-law, Jean King Myatt and many wonderful nieces and nephews. John's family is grateful to his capable caregivers and staff at McHarrie Pointe Assisted Living in Baldwinsville and the V.A. Medical Center in Syracuse. Services: Calling hours will be from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM on Friday, September 22, 2017 at St. Cecilia's Church, 1001 Woods Road, Solvay, NY, 13209.
