Obituary of Sister Lorraine (Joseph Ann) James, OSF

Sister Lorraine (Joseph Ann) James, OSF, went home to God on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Syracuse, New York. She was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Joseph and Lila Abraham James. Sister Lorraine was 75 and was a Sister of St. Francis for 55 years.
She received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York and a Master's in Education from the University of San Diego in San Diego, California. Sister ministered for 33 years in Education and another 10 in Managing records in the microfilm department of St. Joseph Hospital Health Center. Following this time, sister worked in Community service where she lived and also volunteered at the Northside Poverello Clinic.
Sister will be remembered for her vivacious personality, love of her God and her Franciscan Community while also finding joy in sports, singing (especially with the Hospice Harmony Singers), the opera, life and people. She delighted in her Lebanese culture and celebrated with family in song, dance and good food.
She was pre-deceased by her parents.
Sister is survived by five brothers: Joseph M. James, Jr. (Shirley), George M. James (Deana), John R. James, C. Harvey James (Alyn), William K. James (Diane); two sisters: Mary Ruth James and Carol Ann James, several nieces and nephews and the Sisters of St. Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Franciscan Villa Chapel, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY 13212 on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Calling hours will be in the Chapel from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. A farewell service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
