Obituary of Virginia "Ginny" Long

Virginia "Ginny" Hanifan Long, 90, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on April 7th peacefully in her home. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank B. Long and daughter Suzanne E. Forth. She graduated from St. Vincent DePaul High School. Ginny worked at Niagara Mohawk as a secretary, prior to taking time to stay home with her children. She then worked in the cafeteria at St. Charles before becoming secretary at St. Ann's School, where she worked for 27 years before retiring. Ginny was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church. She enjoyed attending plays and going on trips especially to Inlet, NY. Ginny was an active member of the Geddes Seniors and the Friends Forever Group. She served on the Altar and Rosary, along with volunteering at the St. Charles food pantry. Ginny had a beautiful voice and was a lifetime member of the church choir. Her laugh was contagious to all of those around her. May she be laughing and singing in Heaven with the love of her life. Surviving are her son, Michael J. (Christine) Long; daughter, Carolyn "Cari" Lantinga; son in law, Gregory Forth; her sister, Margaret Sniffin; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Services: 12:00 pm Tuesday at St. Charles Church, Syracuse where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be private in St. Mary's Mausoleum, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY.
