Chester S. Malys, 91, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2015 after a brief illness. Chet was born in Solvay to George and Catherine Malys. Prior to owning and operating West Genesee Sales for 42 years with his son Richard, Chet worked for BH Spinney Company for many years. Chet is a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater under General Patton. Chet was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Tuscarora Golf Club for 36 years also serving on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Geddes Vets for nearly 50 years and was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Chet will be remembered for his kindness to everyone who knew him. Chet was predeceased by his children, Richard Malys and Mary Sue Waisman, his grandchildren, Richard Joseph and Elizabeth Anne Malys as well as his four brothers, Walter, Raymond, Edward, John and three sisters, Bessie McKlosky, Veronica Sterzer and Alice Medyn. Survivors: his loving and caring wife of 66 years, Philomena Testa Malys. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Christine Malys, son-in-law, David Waisman, grandchildren, Phillip and Meredith Waisman, many nieces and nephews. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Basilica Of The Sacred Heart, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum, DeWitt. A calling hour will be 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse, prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Food Pantry, 927 Park Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13204.
