Michael R. Baratta, 80, of Lakeland passed away Sunday, at St. Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by family.
Born in Syracuse he was a graduate of Solvay High School. Michael was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and later reenlisted serving in the US Air Force. He joined the Town of Geddes Police Department in 1967. Michael retired as Police Chief in 1998 after 31 years of service. He loved hunting and was a member of the American Legion Post 1361.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael D. Baratta and his daughter, Linda J. Ambrose.
Survivors: his wife of 11 years, Frances A. (Duvall) Baratta; sons, Steven (Victoria) Baratta and Gary Baratta; step children, Christine Reese, Sherri Poland, Edward Firnstein II; several grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; twin brother, Carmine Baratta, sister, Rosemary Baratta.
Services: were private for family.
