EVEREST ("EV") C. HUNTER, 74, of Syracuse died unexpectedly at his winter home in Arizona, on March 25, 2014. He was born to Helen (Mandaville) and Fred Hunter in Syracuse on October 3, 1939. He was founder and president of E.C. HUNTER ASSOCIATES, INC., a consulting firm with clients throughout the country, which he founded with his wife in 1980. Mr. Hunter was a graduate of Utica College of Syracuse University. He held two U. S. Patents and was a Certified Hazard Control Manager. He served on many boards including as past chair of the Syracuse Chapter of the ASM International; Building Industry Consulting Services International; Consolidated Industries of Greater Syracuse; Central New York Communications Association; the Editorial Advisory Boards of Communications Alternatives and Broadband Communication, Datapro Research Divisions of McGraw Hill. He served as a member of the Safety and Health Advisory Committee of University College of Syracuse University; Fire Prevention Committee of the Safety Council of Central New York; Capital Area Telecommunications Association; Canadian Telecommunication Association; Transmission Standards Committee, Association of Long Distance Telephone Resellers. As a telecommunications, health and safety expert, he was quoted in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and many industry publications. He was an expert witness in legal cases regarding telecommunications issues. Mr. Hunter served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, as well as a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and Elder of the Presbyterian Church USA. He was a member of Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Syracuse. He participated in two mission teams to help residents of New Orleans re-build after Hurricane Katrina, one with Samaritan's Purse. He leaves behind his wife, Frances (Ziegler) Hunter, with whom he just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2013; as well as his daughters, Laurel and her husband David Kelly, of Clinton, NJ; and Hillary and her husband, Kay Hilsberg, of Syracuse. He was very proud of his two granddaughters, Sarah and Heather Kelly of Clinton, NJ, and enjoyed time spent in their company. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Donna Robinson; dear nieces and nephews, Sherry Robinson, Michael Robinson, and Susan Gaffney of Clinton, NY, and Patrick Robinson of South Port, NC, and their families; and two uncles, Edwin Jones of Oriskany Falls and Carl Jones of Clinton, NY. A memorial service will be held May 17, 2014, at 11 AM, at Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 126 South Terry Road, Syracuse, NY. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
