Allan Bernard Chamberlain December 9, 2013 Allan Bernard Chamberlain It will come as no surprise to those who have known Allan Chamberlain that he wrote his own obituary about ten years ago. He died at home on December 9th. In its entirety, his own 3-lined version reads: "ABC- Born, 5-27-27, Schenectady, NY Died, _______, Marcellus, NY." Dr. Chamberlain worked as a clinical psychologist for many years in both Oswego and Syracuse. At 17 he enlisted in the Navy and served as a medic during World War II. He is survived by his "nuts-about-him" wife of 24 years, Joanne Downes. With Joanne, the rest of his family and a few close friends, Al made it a point to be productive and to make the day be good; he consistently made time for and looked forward to fun. While always anchored in reality, he steadily maintained a focus on so much of the positive life has to offer. He is also survived by his daughter, Jill Brookoff, and her two daughters, Katie and Sylvia, of Memphis, TN; his son, Bill Chamberlain, (Marion Hoelzel) of Saranac Lake, NY; his son, Aaron Chamberlain, of Syracuse, NY; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Jane Chamberlain, of Camillus, NY. Additionally, Allan is survived by his brother, Leo Chamberlain, of Captain Cook, HI; his sister, Marilyn Mills, (Bob) of Bonita Springs, FL., and his brother-in-law, Jerry Gilner, of Indian Lake, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Nora Gilner; sister-in-law, Leah Chamberlain; and son-in-law, Dr. Dan Brookoff. In keeping with Allan's lifestyle and wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. An informal celebration of his life is planned for members of Al's immediate family at his home in Marcellus. To quote Allan Chamberlain's steady reminder and approach to life: "What is is."
