Obituary of George E. Grover

George E. Grover of Syracuse passed away on Sunday at the age of 91. Born and raised in Pittsfield, MA, George was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from Syracuse University and was a longtime sales manager and residential salesman for Eagan Real Estate. George was a devoted father and beloved grandfather. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and a loyal follower of Syracuse University athletics. Late in life, his patience was rewarded with three Red Sox World Championships and an SU national championship. George also loved Maine, where he spent summers with his grandparents as a youth, and which he visited often throughout his life. George was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church for more than 60 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane (McLaughlin) Grover in 1965, and his second wife, Carol (Ragan) Grover in 1978.
Survivors: his three sons, Thomas (Martha), Dennis (Susan Dates) and Christopher (Leigh); five grandchildren, Nathan, Jane, Clare, Colleen, and Erinn; brother Gerald Grover; sisters Charlotte Robinson and Joan Grover; and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Services: 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Tindall Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 417 S. Orchard Rd., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow with military honors in St. Mary's Mausoleum, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of George Grover to St. Charles Food Pantry, 4471 Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse, NY 13219
