Obituary of Geraldine K. Dewitt

Geraldine K. Dewitt November 28, 2011 Geraldine (Kearns) Dewitt, 89, formerly of Westvale, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2011 in Lakeland, FL. She was born February 7, 1922 the youngest daughter of John and Leona (Wray) Kearns in Syracuse, NY. Gerry, as she was known to friends and family, graduated from Central High School and Syracuse General Hospital School of Nursing. She served her country proudly as a nurse in the US Army during WWII. It was during this service that she met her future husband, Alvin, who was one of her patients. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 45 years, before Alvin's death on May 5, 1991. As a registered nurse, Gerry spent many years in dedicated service to the patients at Van Duyn Home and Hospital. In addition to her late husband she was pre-deceased by brothers, John and Edward and sisters, Dolores and Thelma. Survivors: her sons, Raymond (Sally) of Syracuse and Allen of Plant City, FL; also cherishing her memory are her loving and caring sister Mrs. Ruth Van Dorpe of Lakeland, FL and faithful brother, James of Fort Edward, NY; in addition, granddaughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Milton and Suzanne Dewitt; her great grandson, Conner Milton will remember her as a loving and caring person; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Services: 7 p.m. Thursday at Tindall Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 1921 W. Genesee St., prior to the service. Entombment 10 a.m. Friday at the Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
