John J. Bova, 90, of Westvale passed away peacefully on Friday. Born August 5, 1922, Jack was a lifelong resident of Syracuse growing up in the Tipperary Hill neighborhood of Syracuse and graduating from St. Patrick’s High School in 1940. He was a US Army Air Corps pilot having served in WWII. He retired from Loblaws Inc. and thereafter operated a small trucking company. Jack enjoyed all things “mechanical” especially cars, trucks, and airplanes. He loved all animals and over the years had given shelter to many a homeless dog. Jack took great joy in sending time with family especially his two granddaughters. Survivors: daughter, Elizabeth (Larry) Valenti of Baldwinsville; granddaughters, Alexandra and Rachel Valenti; brother, Daniel (Rita) Bova of Camillus; sister, Sarah (William) Read of Syracuse; Jack was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Matthews Bova, his parents Michael Bova and Josephine McNamara, brothers, Richard, James, and Michael Bova, and sisters Rosemary and Joanne Bova. Services: 9:30 a.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow with military honors in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, 6606 Kinne Rd., DeWitt, NY 13214 or St. Patrick's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave, Syracuse, NY 13204.
