Obituary of Marjorie A. Hess

Marjorie Quinn Hess, 92, of North Syracuse passed away Friday at Loretto. She was a native of Syracuse, growing up on the West Side of the city. The only child of Edward P. and Mildred Rice Quinn and the wife of Robert J. Hess. She was predeceased by Robert after 50 years of marriage in 1997. Marge was active during her life. She was president of her sorority, Florimel. She graduated from Central High School and went to Eastman Dental School in Rochester, graduating as a Dental Hygienist. She worked at her profession until her son Richard was born. In 1952 the family built their house in the development of the former farmland at Taft and Buckley Roads. She became active in community affairs, at St. Rose of Lima Church, as well as holding office in the PTA. After Rick attended school she was asked to become a teacher’s assistant and worked at Nate Perry School until retirement. Survivors: a very kind, caring lady she is survived by her son, Richard T. Hess of Williamsville; grandson, Christopher (Laura) Hess of Ft. Washington, MD. Also her cousin and caretaker, Eleanor Q. Collins, of Syracuse; sister in law, Mary E. Galusky of FL; and nieces, Laureen (George) Fassler, of FL, and Judy (John) Yoest of Liverpool. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Rose Of Lima Church, 409 S. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
