James "Jack" Spillane March 26, 2013 James "Jack" Spillane, 92, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at the VA Medical Center. Born in Solvay, he was a graduate of Solvay High School. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, having served in the 785th Tank Battalion in the Pacific. He was a lifelong member of Carpenter's Union Local 747. He served as a supervisor for Dygert Construction and the Visconti Corporation for many years. Jack enjoyed bowling and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley in 1990, his son James in 1994, and great granddaughter Sherie Ann Northrup in 1986. Survivors: sons, Michael Spillane of Syracuse and William (Sylvia) Spillane of San Diego; daughter, Sharon (William) Pruner of Syracuse; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren; sister, Ellen DeSantis of Utica; daughter in law, Anne Cummings; several nieces and nephews. Services and burial with military honors in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery, will be private for family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humane Association of CNY.
