Obituary of Marian Truex Barrett
Marian Adelaide Barrett (née Truex) passed away peacefully in her family home on January 10, 2025, in Syracuse, NY, at the age of 102. Born on March 1, 1922, in Binghamton, NY, Marian lived a life marked by independence, wit, and devotion to her family.
Marian was a proud veteran, having served in the US Naval Reserve during World War II. After her military service, she dedicated many years to the Onondaga County Probation Department, where she was known for her diligence and determination. Marian’s commitment to service extended into her spiritual life as a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Syracuse, NY.
Her personal life was filled with joyous engagements as Past Royal Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth, and Worthy High Priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Marian was also known for her love of Scarlet O’Hara cocktails and Skaneateles Highballs, which she enjoyed during her leisure time.
Marian was the beloved matriarch of her family, raising her son George Barrett with immense love and resilience as a single parent. She is survived by her son; her grandchildren, Michelle Laine Ort (Jonathon), Sean William Barrett (Holly), and Lee Thomas Barrett (Saret); and her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Sophie, Phoenix, Thea and Leo. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Walter George and Elizabeth Truex, and her brother, Walter George Truex, Jr., as well as her beloved sister-in-law Betty Truex.
A calling hour will be 12pm to 1pm Tuesday, January 14 at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee Street in Syracuse, NY.
Private services to celebrate Marian’s remarkable life and burial at Oakwood Cemetery will follow.
