Sharing in the collective heartbreak, and passing along a passage shared with Bill awhile back. It fit his 6’10 3/4” frame like a well-tailored suit.
“Two Beers and a Puppy Test" (from Ross McCammon's book, Works Well with Others)
In order to find out how you actually feel about someone, ask yourself:
1 - Would you have two beers with this person?
2 - Would you allow this person to look after your puppy over a weekend?
Some people are no and no. These people are to be avoided at all costs. Some people are yes and no. These people are to be cautiously trusted. Some people are no and yes. These people are no fun but they make the world a better place—for puppies, especially. And some people are yes and yes. These people are wonderful people and your life and work are better for having them in your life. Seek them out. Collaborate with them. Enjoy their company.
------
Bill you were solidly a yes and yes, 2 beers and puppy man. You traveled the globe, feasted like a Viking, looked after puppies and friends with steadfast loyalty. You made this world an infinitely better place with sage advice, quick wit, and happiness. May your adventures continue on some celestial plane. Godspeed, my beloved friend. See you in the next life.

I can’t begin to express the shock and sorrow I felt upon reading of Bill’s passing and wish to extend sincere condolences to you and to Jennifer.
Bill was a great kid, a bright young man and attorney. I hold fond memories of his high school years, summer work at the school and the chance meetings ,when he’d interrupt his dash to the downtown courthouse, go out of his way, to extend a friendly greeting; memorable demonstrations of respect and class!
I know you are both hurting and proud; and so are many of us in the Solvay community.
Be sustained by the fond memories you hold.
Rest well Bill, in the special place God has reserved for you

Billy, Wonka – I will miss you dearly! Thank you for being a touchstone for me regarding our family, Solvay & life in general. It was a privilege having you as my cousin – you were always so sweet to my sisters & I - wonderful memories of playing “Kick the can”, “Secret Spies” & “Marco Polo” then fast forward, sharing Twin Trees pizza with you & Sam. Happy times for sure!
Until we meet again~

My father and I are in total shock that this has happened. Billy will always be in our eyes as man who took care of his own. I just saw him, as I always did, walking the dog, by the high school. I asked him how his dad was. He said his dad was a tough old bird. I said yup they don't make them that any more. To Mr. Bob Smolinski ,we are so sorry this had to happen to you. We will be thinking of you.

Uncle Bobby & Jenny -
We're thinking of you and all the other Smolinski families. Billy was the best cousin - from Smolympics to all-family dinners at your house to LeMoyne. He'll be sorely missed but I know Aunt Patty is exuberant! We hope that you feel wrapped in love and support. Suzy and family

The thing I remember the most about Bill was once you got past his physical stature you discovered a wit and intellect that was equally imposing. If you were going to have a conversation with Bill you’d best bring your A game. I’d invariably walk away from our chats with my stomach hurting from laughing and at least two new words in my vocabulary. He was truly larger than life and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

I am very saddened to learn of Bill's passing. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was respectful toward everyone and always a joy to be with.
