Obituary of Martin J. Sheridan

Martin J. (Marty) Sheridan, 80, a lifetime Syracuse resident died peacefully at Francis House on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Born as a fraternal twin (Margaret) to the late William C. Sheridan and Catherine (Purcell) on April 25, 1942, in Syracuse, NY.

Marty is survived by his wife of 58 years, E. Marie Sheridan, his four daughters, Catherine Lee (Victor), Canastota, NY, Rita de Groot (Derk), Wake Forest, NC, Laurie Coddington (Andrew) Hamilton, NY and Karin Muhammad (Mujahid), Syracuse, NY. Five grandchildren, Ashley McGrath, Zachary Coddington, Michael McGrath III, Benjamin Coddington, and Addy de Groot. Predeceased by his siblings Donald, Lenore, William, Mary Elizabeth, Philip, Patrick, Eileen Whitham, and Catherine Chanley. Survived by siblings Margaret DeCerce, Liverpool, NY, Marie Feiman, Greenwood, CO, Anne Yager, Liverpool, NY, Reverend Michael Sheridan, Dedham, MA and Daniel Sheridan, Chittenago, NY Also, survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews.

Marty attended Central High School and retired from the City of Syracuse Water Department. He was active in his church community where he served on the Parish Council, volunteered for various events, and ran the weekly bingo games for many, many years. There were many community groups that he was involved with. He dressed up like Santa for children at Christmas, was a mentor to many people in Central New York, and volunteered a helping hand in whatever had to be done. Marty was devoted to his wife, daughters, and extended family, and would include them in his many adventures through life. He had a very active lifestyle, never stayed still for long, and was always up for a good card game. Marty enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, and traveling especially to Bar Harbor, Maine, and Nova Scotia. Marty will be missed greatly for his infectious smile and contagious laugh that would light up a room.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7pm Thursday, March 2, at Tindall Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11am Friday March 3, at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Cazenovia.
