Obituary of Clare Monica Oddo
Clare M. Oddo, 74, passed away peacefully after a long illness on September 9, 2022. Born in the Bronx, NY on January 24, 1948, the daughter of the late Terrence J. Hoverter and Clarice (Dikeman) Hoverter, Clare spent her early years living on the campus of Fort Schuyler and developed formative memories there, especially as it related to ships and the bay of the ocean.
Her family relocated to Syracuse in 1960. Given the beautiful rivers and lakes in upstate New York, Clare embarked on a pursuit of what became a lifelong hobby of camping, cherishing those times at the lake and boating excursions with family.
Not to go unmentioned, Clare was a devout Syracuse basketball and New York Yankees fan, a force to be reckoned with on the Scrabble board, and fully believed there was always room for dessert.
Clare is survived by her favorite dance partner and husband of 55 years, John W. Oddo; children, Kimberly M. (Kevin) Wingard, Jennifer A., John W. Jr; siblings, many nieces, nephews; and special neighbors and friends that are family in the adopted sense.
The family would also like to acknowledge Menorah Park of Central New York for open communication and exceptional care, specifically at the end of life, provided to Clare to transition with dignity and peace.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 pm Tuesday, September 13, at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St. Syracuse. A service will follow beginning at 6 pm.
