Marijane DeVona November 29, 2012 Marijane Hunt DeVona, 85, of Westvale, devoted wife, mother and sister, passed away Thursday at Francis House. She was born on August 7, 1927 in Marcellus, NY, the youngest of five children. Marijane graduated from Marcellus High School and went to work at Group Parts in Syracuse. There she met Joseph DeVona, a fighter pilot with the newly formed 174th Tactical Fighter Wing based in Syracuse NY. Married in 1950, together they raised 5 sons, with Marijane accepting the difficult task of securing the home front during lengthy deployments. Marijane worked as a secretary at St. Charles Elementary School and at Bishop Ludden High School. She was a devout member of The Church of St. Mark the Evangelist for over 60 years; serving on the Vestry, Altar Guild, Pastoral Care Committee, Transition Committee, as treasurer of Circle V, and as chairperson of the United Thank Offering and Memorial Flower Fund. She especially enjoyed working on the jewelry table at annual rummage sales. Marijane is survived by four sons; Daniel and Linda DeVona of Afton NY, Joseph DeVona of Chittenango NY, John DeVona of Syracuse NY, and William and Deborah DeVona of Cazenovia NY; six grandchildren: James, Sara, Rachel, Nicole, Haley, and Joseph; and by her sister Frances Schiedel of Atlanta GA. She is further survived by her loving nieces and nephews. Marijane took great joy in the lives of her family and the life of her church. Marijane was predeceased by her husband Joseph DeVona in 1985 and by her son Michael in 1960. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Mark the Evangelist. Burial will follow in Amber Cemetery, Amber NY. Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W. Genesee St. Contributions may be made to either the Buildng Fund or Altar Guild of the Church of St. Mark the Evangelist or Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY13208.
