On Easter Sunday, April 4. 2021, God called Sister John Joseph home. Sister, age 92, passed away at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, NY. She was one of 15 children (twelve of whom survived to adulthood) born to John F. Sochor and Frances Mikus Sochor. Sister was born in Endicott, NY and was a member of St. Joseph Parish. She graduated from Union Endicott High School in June of 1946 and entered the Sisters of St. Francis in February of 1947 where she eventually earned a BS in Education from Marywood College and a Masters from St. Bonaventure University. From 1948 the 1986 most of Sister John Joseph’s ministry was devoted to teaching and guiding children and teachers in various Catholic Schools in Syracuse, Amsterdam, Endicott and Vestal, NY, Venice, and Tampa, FL and also Hoboken, NJ. After her service as both teacher and principal, Sister chose a different form of ministry to God’s people and joined the staff of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Port Charlotte, Florida. Over the years there she served in various capacities first as Director of Religious Education then Parish Minister and finally as Director of Bereavement Ministry. In 2005 she retired but still remained at St. Charles Borromeo as a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society until 2009 when she returned to New York State. Sister John Joseph was well loved for the compassion and support she gave to others and for her ability to embrace others with her kindness and joy. Her welcoming, warm, personality lifted the spirits of all. She was fun to be with and loved to travel. Enjoy your trip to heaven, J.J.
