Obituary of Nellie J. Neary

Nellie J. Neary, 57, died peacefully at her group home on Friday, December 4, surrounded by her loving family, housemates and staff. Nellie was born on December 28, 1962 to Dorothea (Scharoun) and John Neary in Syracuse, NY. She graduated from DeVillo Sloan School and participated in three Special Olympics at Madison Square Garden earning gold medals in bowling.

Nellie was the life of the party and interacting with her inevitably ended with a smile. Nell was a peacemaker with a gentle spirit.

Survivors: She leaves to cherish her memory. sisters, Diane Harrington of Fayetteville, Kathleen (Jerome) Clark of Sarasota, FL, Sharon Bach, of Westvale; brother, Kevin (Ellie) of Bernards Bay; step sister, Ellen (Paul) McQuade of Clayton, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, her housemates, Helen and Sally, and the amazing Royal Staff.

Services: 10 am Wednesday December 9, at Holy Family Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Livestream of the Mass can be viewed at www.holyfamilysyr.org. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cazenovia.

Current NYS COVID guidelines requiring masks, social distancing and occupancy limits will be observed.
