Obituary of Hazel B. Edinger

Hazel Betty Edinger, died Monday at home following a long illness surrounded by her children. She was 86 and lived most of her life on Yale Ave., Geddes. The daughter of the late George and Flora Mae Lindo Shandelmayer. She was born June 12, 1931 in Syracuse and lived there for 80 years. She retired from Community General Hospital in 1992.

Mrs. Edinger was a warm person who loved to be doing for others. Family and close friends were very important to her. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse and the Colonial Rug Hooking Guild.

Mrs. Edinger was an accomplished craftswoman who made and sold sweaters at craft shows in Old Forge, Broadalbin and local churches with her mother. They taught rug hooking classes and sold yarn and rug hooking materials from a small shop in their home. She was always crocheting or crafting something.

Hazel also took pride in her garden. Her favorite flower was colored gladiolas. As Mrs. Edinger aged, her son Keith took over the care of  the garden. She couldn't wait till her flowers blossomed. She never wanted to cut any. She also loved feeding the birds in her backyard. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her sister Flora Jean Pettitt.

Survivors: two sons, Keith Edinger with whom she resided, Kenneth Edinger (Kim) of Baldwinsville, a daughter Dianna (Anthony) Antonacci, of Homestead Florida; six grandchildren, Jennifer Wheeler of Pompey, Michelle (Gregg) Carr of Homestead Florida, Heather (Bob) Figueiredo of Baldwinsville, Kristin (James) Reeves of Macon, Georgia, Samantha Edinger of Baldwinsville, Justin Edinger of  Liverpool; five great-grandchildren James and Makayla Wheeler, Jacob Carr, Anderson Figueiredo and Aiden Reeves.

Services: 10am Friday at Tindall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7pm Thursday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St., Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Humane CNY, 4915 Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088.
