Richard Travers June 25, 2012 Richard Travers, 87, a lifetime resident of Howlett Hill, passed away yesterday at home. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Leslie and Catherine Travers, brother Harry Travers and granddaughter Carrie Reagan. He served in WW II for 6 years in the US Navy, having enlisted with his brother the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was a proud member of the greatest generation, serving country and family selflessly. He was a Tin Can Sailor who volunteered time working on the USS Edson, a destroyer at the Intrepid Sea-Air- Space Museum in NYC. An avid golfer, he was a former club champion at Tanner Valley Golf Course, where he spent many happy days golfing with friends and family. A lefty, he played first base for the Split Rock Red Birds, hitting 2 home runs in one inning. He was a steamfitter and 60 year member of Local 267. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors: his wife of 62 years, the former Eva Brinkerhoff; two daughters, Sandra (Robert) Stickney and Gail Travers; 2 grandsons, Justin (Jennifer) Clarke and Andrew (Linda) Reagan; 2 great grandsons, Eamon Willoughby and Samuel Reagan. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tindall Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Howlett Hill Cemetery. A calling hour will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Honor Flight Inc., 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, OH 45505, www.honorflight.org or Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
