Obituary of Edwin L. Bristol

Edwin L. Bristol March 22, 2012 Edwin L. Bristol, 94, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday surrounded by his loving family. Edwin was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII who served in the South Pacific as a flight engineer. He was employed by Eastern Airlines in Syracuse as assistant manager for over 20 years before retiring. He started his second career for the U.S. Post Office, working in downtown Syracuse for over 24 years. He was known as the "mayor" of the postal clerks in the downtown office. Edwin will be remembered by his loving family and friends as a humble, kind, generous and hard-working man who helped everyone. He was a member of the Hiawatha Chapter of the NYSCHA for many years and ejoyed the camping activities and camaraderie he found with the club. He and his wife Laura traveled extensively. He was an active volunteer for many years at Van Duyn Nursing Home. He loved being around people and had a great zest for life. He will be sorely missed by his adoring family and all his dear friends. Edwin was predeceased by his wife, the former Laura (Kirk) Bristol, in 2009. In October 2011, he had the honor to go to Washington, DC, with the Honor Flight Program which honors our World War II veterans. It was an experience that he cherished. Survivors: his two sons, Paul (Kaylynn) and Kirk (Kathy); five grandchildren, Jason (Julie), Adam (Indre), Kristina Bristol Buckley (Jim), Stephanie, and Kirk Michael (Amanda). He has one great-grandson, Tyson. Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St., Syracuse, NY.
