Obituary of Edward H. Munnett

Edward H. Munnett December 14, 2011 Edward H. Munnett, 87, of Syracuse passed away at home on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. A native of Burlington, VT he grew up in Hartford, CT and has resided in Syracuse for 60 years. He served as a US Navy fighter pilot flying corsairs off aircraft carriers in the Pacific during WWII. He was in the Naval Air Corp Active Reserve attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. He was employed in the property and casualty insurance business most recently as an independent contractor with Haylor Freyer & Coon and as an agent with Yackel & Rupp Agency Inc. He was a member of the Tipperary Hill Post American Legion, Camillus Elks, a Charter Member of Council 4114 Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He served on the Board of Directors of the Agents Association of Syracuse, was a former President of Insurance Managers Council and has served on the Board of Directors of JASS, The Jazz Appreciation Society of Syracuse. Ed was devoted to his family. He enjoyed music, boating, SU sports, travel, and golf. He will be remembered for his kind heart and wonderful sense of humor. His wife Kathryn "Pinky" Matthews Munnett passed away in 1992. Survivors: his companion of 18 years, Veronica DeChamp; 4 daughters, Kathryn (Ralph) Haller of Pine, CO., Susan (Bob) Sticco of Liverpool, Maureen (Joe) Vaughan of Fayetteville, and Nancy (Nate) Munnett; 3 sons, Kevin (Kathryn) of Syracuse, Richard of Nashville, TN, and Tom (Jan) of Onondaga Hill; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his lifetime friend, Christopher "Booge" George. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Burial will follow with military honors in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church, 417 S.
