Obituary of Mary Sopchak

Mary Fechisin Sopchak, 91, of Solvay passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday. She was born in Lakewood, OH and at age 5 she moved with her family to Czechoslovakia. At age 14, Mary would return to Clifton, NJ. After she met and married her husband, Dr. Andrew L. Sopchak in Passaic, NJ, they would eventually settle in Solvay, NY. Mary was a homemaker and avid gardener. She was predeceased her husband Dr. Andrew L. Sopchak in 2009. Survivors: son, Dr. Andrew (Amy) Sopchak of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Andrew E. Sopchak and Anastasia Sopchak; sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Czech; many nieces and nephews. Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 401 Hamilton St., Syracuse. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Church Cemetery, Aurelius, NY. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7p.m. Monday, with a requiem service at 6:30 p.m., at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
