Carrie M. Rood July 7, 2011 Carrie M. Rood, age 96, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at St. Camillus, where she had resided for the last three years. Born in Syracuse on October 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Genevieve and Daniel Canestraro of Solvay. She attended Syracuse University, graduated from the Normal School, and taught 4th grade in the Solvay District for 38 years, retiring in 1974. A longtime communicant of Holy Family Church in Fairmount, she was also a member of the Corinthian Club and the Bridge Studio of Syracuse. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1974, as well as her sister and brother, Marjorie and Anthony Canestraro. Survivors: her son Robert (Judith) of Camillus, her granddaughters Robyn (Robert K.) Geranis and Jordan (Christopher) Bruna, grandson Cheyne Rood, great grandsons Joseph and Luke Bruna and Robert C. Geranis, her brother Daniel, and her cousins Carol Louise and Janet Moro. The family wishes to give special thanks to Bellevue Manor and St. Camillus for their gentle care. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday there will be a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church, Fairmount. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling hours will be from 2 to 5p.m. Sunday at the Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 West Genesee Street, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Camillus Recreation Fund, c/o Mary Ellen Steele, 813 Fay Road, Syracuse, NY 13219.
