James Eugene Dwyer April 14, 2011 James Eugene Dwyer of Syracuse, NY died on April 14, 2011. He passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief illness. He was born in 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to James and Mary (Morrison) Dwyer and was an only child. Jim served his country with distinction in World War II. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1947, followed by a year of study at the Academie de la Grand Chaumiere in Paris and later earned an MFA from Syracuse University. Jim was a Professor Emeritus at Syracuse University, where he taught painting and drawing for over 35 years. Among his credits as an artist are solo shows at the University of Maine, Krasner Gallery and Lubin House in NYC, Wooster and Ashland Colleges in Ohio, Colgate, SUNY Cortland, Cooperstown National Grand Prize and a juried show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His work is in numerous collections including the Everson Museum, Munson-Williams Proctor Institute, Syracuse University and IBM corporate headquarters. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha M. Dwyer; daughter, Elizabeth Dwyer, of Chittenango, NY; son, Michael (Ann) of Columbia, SC; and two grandchildren, Erik and Rita Eian. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and touched many lives through his teaching at S.U. The family held a private memorial luncheon in his honor on April 16, 2011. The family wishes to give special recognition to the aides who assisted in Jim's care and kept him comfortable in his home.
