Obituary of Marian T. Hatch
Marian Helen (Thomas) Hatch, 92, passed away August 29, 2022 at home in Salem, Oregon after a brief Illness. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson C. Hatch, daughter-in-law Nancy Hatch and son-in-law Dave Queior. Marian was born in Utica, NY in 1930. She grew up on Syracuse’s North Side and graduated from North High School in 1948. She had a reputation as a top student and quick learner, and soon started a job at The Equitable Life Insurance Company. It was there she met Nelson, and they married in 1951. After Nelson’s service during the Korean War they settled in Solvay, NY and began a family. Marian was active in her church and served as co-chair with Nelson for the local PTA. In 1965 the family moved to nearby Fairmount, and in 1971 the family relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where Marian worked for an accounting firm. In 1977 the family moved back to Solvay where Nelson took over as President of Geddes Federal S & L. While in Solvay Marian worked at Koagel & Vincentini Accountants and later as an independent accountant and tax prep expert. In 1999, they moved to the Washington DC area to be near daughter Linda, son Doug and their respective spouses.
Marian continued to work, keeping many Central NY tax & accounting clients through subsequent years and moves to Tampa, FL and Charlotte, NC. After Nelson’s passing, she moved to Salem, OR where her daughter Sharon DeLaveaga, with husband Dave, provided a wonderful home for her remaining years. She finally retired in May 2022. Her hobbies included journeys to casinos near and far, knitting, supporting the needs of homeless pets and creating family photo albums. She was devoted to her family for nearly 70 years, through the births of five children and, later, adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them all and always made each one feel special. She also loved her pets, from her first stray dog “Theodore” in 1935 to her most recent dog Kona.
In addition to daughter Sharon, Marian is survived by her children David (Patricia) Hatch of Cicero, Dennis Hatch of Niskayuna, NY, Linda Queior of Raleigh NC, and Doug Hatch of Salem, OR. She is also survived by Doug’s husband, David Patton, who grew into an honorary son and beloved friend for over 26 years. Marian also leaves behind several sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service for family and friends will be at Tindall Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Onondaga Veterans Cemetery, alongside her husband of 58 years.
