
Obituary of Mary R. Shostack
Mary Shostack, 99, of Syracuse, died Wednesday July 29 of age-related illness at home.
Mary was born in Syracuse on May 2, 1927. After graduating from Central High School, Mary worked in retail becoming the hat buyer for Witherill’s Department Store before her marriage to John Shostack in 1949. She raised two daughters and was known as an impeccable housekeeper. For 30 years, Mary and John worked side by side as proprietors of Forrest Home Hotel on Otisco Lake. John and Mary retired to Syracuse in 1991, wintering at their home in Vero Beach, Florida until John’s death. Back in Syracuse, a favorite activity was cheering the SU basketball team with friends and family with wings and a glass of wine.
She was predeceased by her parents Fredrick and Catherine Kuss, and by her beloved husband, John.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Christine Shostack (Judson Rosebush) of NYC and Cynthia Shostack of Dewitt.
A service will be held 11am Wednesday, August 5 at the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
