Obituary of John Joseph Capozzolo Jr.

John J Capozzolo Jr., age 94, passed away peacefully in his family home, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.  John was born on May 15, 1931 in New York City, to Jean and John Capozzolo. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1953 with a degree in Chemistry. While at school, he met his wife Shirley and started a family, residing in the beautiful Strathmore neighborhood for over 50 years. He worked for Allied Chemical for 32 years, and co-invented a patent. Following his retirement from Allied Chemical, John went back to school and graduated with a second degree in Finance from LeMoyne College, working as an accountant and tax preparer for the next 35+ years. He had a passion for traveling with his longtime companion Beth, which included 88 cruises and land travel all over the world. His favorite destination was Tahiti and he also enjoyed collecting miniature coffee mugs from each city.  He was an avid numismatic enthusiast and collected ancient coins since an early age. Other hobbies included scuba diving, competitive ice skating, roller skating, and ballroom dancing, winning several trophies.  He restored and took pleasure in driving a beautiful 1952 MG-TC antique car. Always into gardening, John had a green thumb and was happy to share his beautiful flowers that were many times complimented by the neighbors.

Beloved father and grandfather, John was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and leaves behind his daughter, Shirleen (Bob), son John III (Shannon), grandchildren Amy (Josh) Rose, John (Laura) Capozzolo IV, Anthony (Liz) Capozzolo, and Sarah Capozzolo. John is also blessed to have three great-grandchildren Samantha (Chris) LaCroix, Amelia and Miles Capozzolo, as well as two great-great grandchildren River and Raven LaCroix.

We will forever miss John’s wisdom, talents, quiet strength and love.
