Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harold Joseph Bogan, "Hal", passed away peacefully at his home of the last five years at Breton Rehabilitation & Living Centre in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Thursday morning, September 14, 2017. Born on August 5, 1929 in Hudson, New York, Hal attended St. Mary's Academy where he was captain of the high school basketball team and had many friends whom he remained close to over the course of his life. He graduated from St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont where he met the love of his life, Claire Lucille Letourneau whom he married on January 21, 1956. Hal and Claire enjoyed 50 years of marriage, together raising four children in Syracuse, New York. Hal proudly enlisted as an officer in the United States Marine Corp and remained in service to his country until he retired from the USMC Reserves in Syracuse, New York as a full Colonel. He was a highly respected employee of Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, and after 39 years of service, retired from his position there as Corporate Secretary. Harold's Roman Catholic faith was an integral part of his life and a compass in all he did for his family and his community. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Parish on Onondaga Hill and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Board of Directors for the Boys Club of America, was a member of the American Legion, and a former member of Tuscarora Country Club. Survivors: Hal's children Karen and Paul Scripsema, Kathy and Paul Slazik, Michael Bogan and Sally Hetelekidis will forever cherish his memory, as will his grandchildren, Stephen Bogan, Phillip Bogan, Kaitlin (Bryant) DeKruyter , Elysia (Justin) French, and great-granddaughter, Isabell French. He is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews, as well as Bob (Beth) Letourneau, and Jane Letourneau Couture. Now reunited with his beloved Claire who passed away on December 2, 2006 and his son Harold Arthur who passed away on September 11, 1987, we rejoice at his home-going to those who also preceded him: Great-granddaughter Nadia French, mother Alice K. Winans of Hudson, NY and father Harold Joseph Sr of Brooklyn, NY. Hal especially held dear his sister, Molly (Joseph) McDonald who preceded him in death on November 22, 2014. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Breton Rehabilitation for five years of love, devotion and exemplary care that brought such joy and well being to Hal during his residency there. Services: 9:30 am Wednesday at Tindall Funeral Home and 10:00 am at The Church Of St. Michael And St. Peter, 4782 W Seneca Turnpike, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY.
