Leland S. "Mitch" Mitchell, 95, formerly of Camillus passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Born in Syracuse, NY on January 4, 1922, he was the son of the late John C. Mitchell and Mildred E. Mitchell. Leland was a lifelong resident of Syracuse. He grew up in Westvale and graduated from Solvay High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII from 1942-1945. While stationed in Texas he married his wife Florence in October 1943. He retired from New York Bell Telephone in 1984 after 39 years of employment. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Florence Dwyer Mitchell on October 19, 1998. He was also predeceased by siblings Lloyd F. Mitchell, Mildred "Millie" Mitchell Dunk, Jeanette Mitchell McGarvey and John C. "Jack" Mitchell. Survivors: daughters, Judith M. Dieso (Stephen), of O'Fallon, Missouri; Lisa M.Mitchell of Liverpool, New York; sons, Charles J. Mitchell (Marie Nelly), of Madison, Wisconsin; Michael S. Mitchell (Cathy), of Heathrow, Florida; Mark S. Mitchell (Mary Lou), of North Syracuse; Brian E. Mitchell (Patricia), of Baldwinsville. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the loving caregivers at McHarrie Pointe and McHarrie Place in Baldwinsville, and Hospice of Central New York. Services: There will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
