David James Flaherty, 65, of Solvay, passed away at home on November 12, 2015. A graduate of Solvay High School, David was first employed as a photoengraver for the Syracuse Newspapers, earning journeyman status. Later he was employed in large machinery repair at Allied Chemical and subsequently retired from General Chemical Corporation. In retirement, he worked as head custodian at Solvay Middle School, then in the maintenance department for the Solvay District. David also served on the Board of Trustees for the Village of Solvay from 2007 to 2011. He is member of the Solvay Tigers Athletic Club. David was predeceased by his father and mother, James and Joanne (Gebhardt) Flaherty, his brother, Alan Flaherty, and his nephew, Jesse Flaherty. Survivors: his wife, Lucille (Callisto) Flaherty, daughter and son-in law Lisa and Eric Flansburg of Baldwinsville, and grandsons, Eric David and Nathan James Flansburg. He is also survived by his sister, Frances Flaherty; brothers James (Patricia), Stephen, Paul (Amy), Patrick; and extended family Debra (Joseph) Gozzi, Cynthia (Philip) DeMatteo, Jan (Danny) Linzille, John (Lori) Yakawiak; and several nieces and nephews. Services: 9:00 a.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Cecilia's Church, 1001 Woods Rd., Solvay, NY 13209 or Hospice Of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
