John P. Reap, age 105, passed away on All Saints' Day at Loretto-Cunningham. He was born on June 28, 1910 to John and Anna (Bourke) Reap in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, emigrated to Avoca, PA as an infant, and was a Syracuse resident for 99 years. A US Army veteran, he served in the southwest Pacific 313th Signal Battalion, attached to Thirteenth Air Force Fighter Command. He married Marion T. Hildenbrand in 1947. John began working at Niagara-Mohawk in 1951, bowled and golfed in the company's employee leagues, and retired as a building maintenance crew foreman in 1975. He continued golfing after retirement, when not playing the role of elder to the extended family. He was predeceased by Marion, and by his brothers, Peter A. and Francis J. Reap. Survivors: sons, John J. Reap of Sun City West, AZ, and Kevin (Kathleen) Reap of Syracuse; his nieces and nephews, Lauretta, Mary, Peter, Patrick, and Patricia Reap, Kathleen Tipper, David Hildenbrand, and their families. We wish to express our gratitude to Colleen and the Third Floor staff of Loretto Cunningham. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday in the St. Joseph Chapel of Most Holy Rosary Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Most Holy Rosary Church Food Pantry, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, NY 13207.
