Ruth Matthews Bova, 88, of Westvale passed away Saturday. Ruth was born in Watertown, NY moving to Syracuse in 1936. Ruth graduated from Central High School and Powelson Business School prior to working at Solvay Process, Syracuse Supply, and Planned Parenthood. Ruth was an avid reader, gardener and enjoyed knitting. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mark The Evangelist Episcopal Church. Ruth was predeceased by her parents John and Mabel Matthews, two brothers, John E. and Elliott Matthews. Survivors: her husband of 57 years, John “Jack” Bova of Westvale; daughter, Elizabeth (Larry) Valenti, granddaughters, Alexandra and Rachel Valenti, all of Baldwinsville; brother, Robert Matthews of Fremont; sister, Mary (Robert) Kraushaar of Westvale, and several nieces and nephews. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark The Evangelist Episcopal Church, 1612 W Genesee St. Burial will be private for family in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark The Evangelist Episcopal Church, 1612 W Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13204 or the SPCA.
